The maternal mortality rate — women who die in childbirth or shortly afterwards — in the US is higher than in any other industrialized country and it’s getting worse, especially in underserved Black and Hispanic communities. The American Heart Association is providing a 20-million-dollar grant to discover ways to improve the maternal and infant mortality rate.
