Cancer Related to Depression

Dr. M. Beatriz Currier

Beatriz Currier, Director of Cancer Patient Support Center at Miami Cancer Institute, says cancer patients during their first five years from the time of diagnosis are about three times more likely to develop depression than what doctors see in the general population.

"Many epidemiological studies have shown that up to 40% of patients will suffer from some type of psychological or psychiatric condition during their treatment and beyond," she points out.
