What causes Breast Cancer?

Dr. Jane Mendez

Breast Surgery Specialist Jane Mendez explains the risk factors that can cause breast cancer. "Cancer affects all ages. All women are at risk," says Mendez. "The older the women, the more likely they are to developing breast cancer."

The expert also mentions it is still difficult to determine the specific causes. "The risk factors for breast cancer are multifactorial, for that reason it is very difficult to find a cure for breast cancer," explains the doctor.

There are three main groups that suffer from breast cancer. The first 85% are the patients who do not have the disease in the family history. Another 10% is due to genetics. And finally, a group of 5% who have the gene mutation where the specialist can act on to prevent the disease.
