Heart Attack: First Aid

Dr. Romeo Majano, Cardiovascular Specialist with Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, says the first thing to do if you have chest pain or other symptoms of heart attack and your are alone is to call 911, and at least try to get the attention of someone in case you have an arrhythmia and need CPR.

"The next thing you should do is chew an aspirin. Aspirin itself reduces the mortality and morbidity of a heart attack dramatically," he points out. He also highlights if you are driving, you need to pull over immediately, call 911 and if you feel you are going to pass out, just lay down wherever you can and elevate your legs.
