Learning about Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotics are used for bacterias, but some of them are resistant to antibiotics.

Carlos Torres-Viera, Infectious Disease Physician with West Kendall Baptist Hospital, explains the bacterias are changing in a way that sometimes become resistant to that antibiotic, so doctors need to use a different antibiotic. According to the physician, the problem is the huge increase of resistant bacterias that limit doctors' options to treat some infections.

So specialists try to use antibiotics the less that they can, so the pharmaceutical companies are not very interested in creating new antibiotics because they are not a big business.
