Fernando Vega, Physical Therapist at Miami Orthopedics and Sports Institute, explains core is any muscle that crosses two joints; the most common ones are our abdominals.

For example, sitting on a stability ball can be helpful for your posture. "Any exercise can be made into a core exercise and you can do it by contracting your abdomen. Imagine that you're pulling your belly button straight back towards your spine and then tuck it up underneath your ribcage and hold. You should be able to talk as you're holding that contraction," he says.
