Tommy John Surgery's Procedure

Dr. Derek Papp, Sports Medicine Physician with Miami Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute, explains in a Tommy John surgery, the doctor takes a tendon and weaves it back into the bone. "In time, your body actually takes that tendon and turns it into like a tough scar so it functions as a ligament."

He also says a player can go back to pitching after this surgery. "It takes a long time, it takes a year to a year and a half to recovery."
